10 Useful (Free) Apps for Your Symbian S60 Phone
I recently got myself the Nokia E63, and have been searching for useful apps for it. The Nokia E63 runs the Symbian S60 operating system. The S60 software platform is for mobile phones that runs on Symbian OS. It is one of the most versatile smartphone platforms in the world. There are loads of applications available for the S60 platform.
1. Fring
Fring is a useful IM client for mobile. Using your handset′s internet connection, you can interact with friends on all your favourite social networks including Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, Twitter, Yahoo! and AIM. You can even listen to music with your Last.fm friends, see what people are doing on Facebook, receive alerts of new Google Mail and more.

2. Google Maps for Mobile
Google Maps for mobile is a really neat app for your S60 phone. You can browse maps for almost every city on the planet, get your location (with or without GPS), and get driving directions and the latest traffic updates (only in selected areas). You can even get phone numbers and addresses of businesses. It’s basically the web based Google Maps, but for mobile.

3. Nokia Podcasting
Get podcasts on your mobile using the Nokia Podcasting app. Using Nokia Podcasting you can find, subscribe, download, share, manage and play podcasts, using your mobile’s internet connection, direct to your mobile.
So if you’re an avid podcaster, this app is essential for you.

4. Screenshot
The Screenshot app allows you to capture screenshots of your device’s screen. (It’s like Print Screen on Windows computers, but on your mobile)
You can capture a screenshot and save it as a JPEG, PNG, BMP or MBM file. Also, you can customize the shortcut key, file name and delay of capturing. Screenshot also supports continuous mode, that allows you to capture screenshots every a few seconds.
5. Adobe PDF Reader
Great for business users on the go. You can use this application to read PDF files on your S60 mobile phone, just as you would read them on a computer.

6. Tweets60
Tweets60 is a free Twitter (follow me on Twitter) client for S60 based phones. Twitter does have a mobile site, but Tweets60 is a way better alternative. You can post to directly to Twitter, and also keep your data usage to a minimum.
7. Life Remarks
Turn your phone into a personal diary with this useful app. Life Remarks is a personal journal of your life. With it, you can keep a daily log of your life. To protect it from unwanted people, you can also password protect your “diary”.
8. JbakTaskMan
JbakTaskMan is a task manager for phones running on the S60 platform. It replaces the standard, and somewhat basic, task manager, and adds new features. Here’s a list of some of the features:
- List of all programs in your phone with quick search by name or UID.
- List of processes, threads, chunks with quick search.
- Quick and stable termination of busy tasks.
- Phone reboot.
- Info about free memory.
- Detailed information about currently running task, which you can copy to clipboard.
- Quick task switch by pressing and holding menu-key (Smooth task switch).
- Remember last-visited position in system phone menu.
9. Google Sync
If you’re the average business user, you use one or several of the many business applications Google has to offer (Calendar, contacts, etc). But what if you also use these on your phone? How do you sync your phone with your online stuff on Google?
Google Sync is the answer. Using this nifty software, you can sync your phone with your Google account, ensuring that both your phone and your computer are always synchronized with the latest information.

10. Qik
Qik (like Justin.tv and Ustream.tv) is a service you can use to broadcast live. This Qik service allows you to broadcast directly from your cell phone. Loads of handsets are supported.
After you register for the service, you can download the Qik app to your mobile phone, and start video streaming!
11. Opera Mini
Opera Mini is the ultimate web browser for your S60 phone. The default, built-in web browsers that come with S60 phones are not so efficient, and don’t have many features. Opera Mini on the other hand, is made for mobile. It is pretty fast: data is compressed before being sent to your phone. It’s also free!
